Pontjo Sutowo's company vehemently rejects Hotel Sultan eviction, citing reasons
JAKARTA - PT Indobuildco’s lawyer Hamdan Zoelva has stated that the planned eviction of Hotel Sultan in Central Jakarta is not final. He said all possibilities remain open before the government-set execution deadline of 18 June 2026. ‘We vehemently reject the planned execution which could become a source of legal problems and injustice for the nation under President Prabowo’s leadership,’ Hamdan told Kompas.com on Thursday, 28 May 2026. He cited three reasons: first, legal uncertainty and injustice, as it may be the first time in judicial history that an execution is carried out in violation of the law. He also referenced Supreme Court circulars No. 3 of 2000 and No. 4 of 2001, which state that execution cannot proceed without a security deposit equivalent to the value of the asset. Second, the eviction would cause social issues by displacing thousands of employees, tenants, vendors, and their families. Third, it would disrupt the national business and investment climate by using execution as a tool to seize assets built and managed by PT Indobuildco. Ham further noted that describing the execution as a ‘final’ step oversimplified the legal complexities.
