Pontianak to stop illegal gold miners

PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Landak Regent Cornelis threatened
to deploy local gangs to help stop uncontrolled, illegal mining
in Landak regency.

"If the gold miners refuse to stop their illegal conduct, I
will send more local people to face them because their activities
have deteriorated the environment and the forest area in the
regency," he said here on Monday.

Local security authorities have also pledged to take strict
measures against those who have protected the illegal miners," he
