Pontianak District Prosecutor's Office Recaptures Two Fugitive Detainees
Pontianak — A combined task force of prosecutors and police have secured two of three detainees from the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office who fled following the stage II case file handover process, whilst a third fugitive remains the subject of ongoing pursuit.
Intensive search operations commenced on Wednesday, 11 March, with support from the Rapid Response Team of the West Kalimantan High Prosecutor’s Office, personnel from the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office, and police units, according to I Wayan Gedin Arianta, Head of the Legal Information Section of the West Kalimantan High Prosecutor’s Office, speaking in Pontianak on Thursday.
The escape occurred the previous day, Tuesday, 10 March, during the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office’s stage II case file handover of 11 detainees in rotation to public prosecutors. The constant movement of detainees in and out of the facility left cell doors in an open condition.
At approximately 14:34 central Indonesian time, three individuals suspected to be detainees were captured on surveillance cameras jumping from the second-floor window of the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office building before crossing through an area adjacent to the local Telkom Indonesia office, situated beside the prosecutor’s complex.
The incident came to light around 15:00 central Indonesian time when on-duty officers reported the suspected escape whilst intelligence personnel were engaged in a video conference. Immediate verification of the detention area confirmed all three individuals were unaccounted for.
Initial investigation involved interviewing security personnel at the Telkom office, who reported witnessing several individuals jumping from the second-floor window of the prosecutor’s building. Officers subsequently examined CCTV footage and confirmed the movements of all three in that location at the same time.
The prosecutor’s office then coordinated with the provincial prosecutor’s office and police for security measures and pursuit operations.
“To date, two detainees have been secured by the prosecutor’s office team working with officers from Sintang Police Resort. One remaining detainee is still being pursued by the combined apparatus,” Arianta stated.
I Wayan Gedin Arianta expressed appreciation for the swift response and cross-institutional coordination in handling the case.
“Rapid coordination and solid cooperation between the prosecutor’s office and police proved the key to the re-apprehension of the fugitive detainees,” he said.
He added that success in securing two detainees represents the integrated work of all law enforcement officials in the field.
“We appreciate the swift and solid work from the West Kalimantan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office team, the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office personnel, and the responsive support from police in pursuit operations that resulted in two detainees being successfully recaptured. This demonstrates our collective commitment to ensuring the law enforcement process proceeds properly,” he stated.
Law enforcement continues pursuing the remaining detainee for swift apprehension and processing according to applicable legal provisions.
