The Ponorogo Regency Government, East Java, has postponed the signing of the construction contract for the new Mrican Final Disposal Site (TPA) as it awaits the issuance of a Decree (SK) from the Ministry of Forestry regarding the use of project land.

Dwi Puspitorini, Head of the Settlement Area Division of the Ponorogo DPUPKP, stated on Tuesday that all submission documents have been delivered to the Ministry of Forestry and are currently awaiting approval.

“The documents are already at the ministry; we are just waiting for them to be signed. That is all we are waiting for,” she said.

According to Dwi, the project tender process has been completed, and the service provider was appointed in early August. However, the local government cannot sign the work contract before the land-use permit is issued.

The Ponorogo Regency Government, she continued, does not dare to commence physical work without a valid legal basis, as it risks causing legal or administrative issues in the future.

“If it is not issued soon, there is a high possibility of cancellation because the contract will not be signed. We also do not dare to carry out the work due to the risks involved,” she added.

The new Mrican TPA is planned to be built on approximately 9.3 hectares of land in Mrican Village, Jenangan District, which is part of the Perhutani-managed forest area.

The new landfill is required to replace the old Mrican TPA, which is currently experiencing overcapacity due to the increasing volume of waste arriving daily.

The Ponorogo Regency Government hopes that the land-use approval will be issued promptly so that the waste management project can be realised and support the improvement of waste services in the region.
