Pondok Labu Reservoir Construction Reaches 30 Per Cent, Completion Targeted for December 2026
The construction of the Pondok Labu Reservoir, Cilandak, South Jakarta, has reached 30.264 per cent and is targeted for completion in December 2026.
“The realisation of the Pondok Labu Reservoir or Waduk Bango construction currently stands at 30.264 per cent,” said Puryanto Palebangan, Head of the Drainage Sub-group of the Flood Control and Drainage Division of the Jakarta Provincial Water Resources Agency (SDA), when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.
Puryanto stated that the construction of the reservoir is still proceeding according to the established work stages.
The development of Waduk Bango covers an area of approximately 13,266 square metres and is slated for completion by December 2026.
Meanwhile, the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency confirmed that Waduk Bango is still in the construction phase. This statement follows reports suggesting that the reservoir had breached after heavy rain hit the surrounding area.
“Waduk Bango appears to be undergoing departmental work. Yes, it is undergoing revitalisation; the reservoir construction is indeed underway,” said Junjung Paulus, Head of the Maintenance Section of the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency.
Junjung emphasised that the construction work is still in progress.
Information regarding the condition of the reservoir emerged after several residential areas on Jalan Bango 4 were flooded during rain on Wednesday (30/9). An inhabitant of RT 9, named Oji, stated that flooding affected at least four residential units, namely RT 9, RT 10, RT 11, and RT 14. The water level reportedly reached approximately 60 centimetres, or knee-high for an adult.
According to Oji, residents suspect the flooding is related to river water entering through a diversion under the bridge and a pumping system that has not been functioning at maximum capacity during the construction period. He expressed hope that the project managers would provide an explanation regarding operational procedures during construction to ensure that work can continue without impacting local residents.
