Pondok Labu Prepares Long-Term Flood Mitigation Measures
The Pondok Labu sub-district in Cilandak, South Jakarta, is preparing a series of long-term measures to address potential flooding in the area. Nachnoer Vernier Atom, the Head of Pondok Labu, stated that plans include reinforcing the banks of the Kali Grogol river and conducting dredging operations along both the Kali Grogol and Kali Krukut rivers. Additionally, the construction of the Bango Reservoir, also known as the Cilandak Reservoir, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. By combining these infrastructure improvements with an early warning system, officials hope to minimise the impact of flooding. A community-led initiative by local youth organisation Karang Taruna has already installed a Smart Flood Warning System in two neighbourhood units (RT 01 and RT 02 of RW 10). The siren-based system is designed to provide residents with advance notice before water levels rise, offering better protection during the rainy season.
