PON to get on-line computer

JAKARTA (JP): The XIV National Games (PON) here next year will have an on-line computer system to ease the compiling of results, programs and other hectic tasks at the national sports gathering.

One of the features in the PON on-line system is that it will be connected to electronic public display boards, which will also carry advertisements, during the Games.

The on-line system will be hooked up to Internet providers in Indonesia, in order to allow Indonesians and all parts of the world to observe the Games and follow the results of all events.

"Compaq is privileged to be the products sponsor of this important national sports event," said Compag Computer Asia General Manager Ramada Sivadas during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Compaq and PT Baskara Sistemindo yesterday. Witnessing the event was general-secretary of PON XIV OC Eddy Widodo representing Chief Executive R. S. Moeseno.

At the Games, Compaq will provide advanced computer equipment featuring 60 Compaq ProLinea 575E to be used at 35 sports events. (rsl)
