Polymarket Blocked in Indonesia, Komdigi: Classified as Online Gambling
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Communications and Digital has blocked Polymarket for allegedly operating as online gambling under the guise of a prediction market.
In addition to restricting access to www.polymarket.com, monitoring teams are currently investigating all social media accounts affiliated with Polymarket for comprehensive restrictions and blocking across various platforms.
Director General of Digital Space Oversight Alexander Sabar stated that platforms facilitating monetary bets on specific outcomes are still classified as online gambling, even when packaged as prediction markets using blockchain technology or cryptocurrency assets.
“Activities like Polymarket involve monetary wagering and speculation on uncertain events, conflicting with Indonesia’s applicable legal provisions,” Alex said in a press statement, cited on Monday, 25 May 2026.
He further noted that the decisive access-blocking action aligns with global jurisdictions, with several countries implementing similar measures against Polymarket and prediction market platforms due to their resemblance to online gambling practices.
Singapore, Brazil, and India have officially blocked Polymarket, while Taiwan, Thailand, China, and Japan have also imposed access restrictions in accordance with their respective national laws.
The ministry has also urged the public not to access or engage in digital betting speculation activities, including those using cryptocurrency assets, as they may cause financial losses and violate Indonesian legal regulations.
