Polri's Korlantas Trains Taxi Drivers at ISDC Serpong to Boost Road Safety
The Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho said the training is part of efforts to create security, safety, order, and smooth road traffic (Kamseltibcarlantas).
‘Collaborating to improve drivers’ capabilities is important, because whatever the issues on the road, they must be safe. Therefore, Korlantas Polri, together with GSM Taksi management, is conducting this training. This is part of how we raise driver professionalism, because the driver aspect is important,’ said Irjen Agus.
He noted that drivers play a major role in reducing road traffic accidents. Therefore, the training is expected to improve compliance with traffic laws and foster the realisation of a zero-accident target.
‘Hopefully with this training, drivers will be orderly, comply with traffic laws, and be truly professional in driving taxis. They will of course serve the public well. Hopefully this can become a model,’ he added.
In addition, through the ‘Polantas Menyapa’ programme, Korlantas Polri also targets training for 7,000 drivers in the initial phase as an effort to enhance driving ability.
‘With professional driving ability, it will certainly reduce, and aim towards zero accidents. This is what is expected because one of the core duties of the Police, particularly Korlantas, is to realise traffic that is safe, secure, orderly, and smooth,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Deny Tjja, Managing Director of GRRMC Green SM Indonesia, appreciated the collaboration with Korlantas Polri. He said safety is the company’s top priority in providing transportation services.
‘This is pioneering how private sector collaboration with public institutions works. Green SM also recognises that safety is the top priority,’ Deny said.
The activity began with drivers reciting an oath as a commitment to maintaining road safety. Next, the drivers received theoretical and practical briefings, driving techniques, an understanding of traffic rules, and field-based driving safety simulations.
