Polri Traffic Corps and Green SM Indonesia train drivers to boost road safety
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) together with Green SM Indonesia taxis conducted a training programme to enhance the skills of taxi drivers to improve road safety and driver professionalism. Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, said the training, held at the Indonesia Safety Driving Centre (ISDC) at the Police Lalu Lintas Training Centre (Pusdik Lantas Polri) in Serpong Utara, South Tangerang, is part of efforts to realise safety, security, order and the smooth flow of traffic on the roads. “The cooperation to enhance drivers’ abilities is important because whatever the issue on the roads, people must arrive safely. Therefore, Korlantas Polri in conjunction with Green SM Indonesia is conducting the training. This is part of raising driver professionalism, because the driver aspect is important,” he said, as quoted from an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He said drivers play a major role in reducing traffic accident figures. Agus also hopes the training will improve traffic compliance and contribute to the target of zero accidents. “We hope that with this training the drivers will be orderly, compliant with traffic, and truly professional in operating the vehicle. Naturally, they will serve the public well. We hope this can be a model,” he said. Furthermore, the two-star police general said Korlantas also targets training for 7,000 drivers in the initial phase as an effort to improve driving ability. “With professional driving skills, this should reduce, or even approach, zero accidents. This is the objective because one of Polri’s primary duties, especially Korlantas, is to realise traffic that is safe, secure, orderly, and smooth,” he said. Meanwhile, Managing Director of Green SM Indonesia, Deny Tjia, praised the collaboration in driver training with Korlantas Polri. According to him, safety is the company’s top priority in providing transportation services. “This is pioneering how private sector collaboration with public institutions works. Green SM Indonesia also realises that safety is a top priority,” he said.
