Polri to Verify Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry's Citizenship

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Police are investigating the citizenship status of Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry alias SAM, the suspect in a sexual harassment case. “We are also communicating with Egyptian authorities to validate his citizenship status,” said the Head of the International Crime Section (Kabag Jatranin) of the International Relations Division (Divhubinter) of Polri, Commissioner Ricky Purnama, to reporters on Friday (8/5/2026). “If his Indonesian citizenship status is validated and approved, it would be through the naturalisation route based on a proposal as a spouse in a mixed marriage with an Indonesian woman,” he stated. However, Polri’s Divhubinter is still coordinating with Egyptian authorities to confirm the possibility that the suspect also holds Egyptian citizenship. The case has attracted public attention after several victims reported alleged sexual harassment committed by SAM through their legal representatives. The victims’ lawyer, Benny Jehadu, stated that there are five victims in the case. Polri will submit a red notice to Interpol to make Ahmad Al Misry an international fugitive. “The red notice submission is currently in process through the Interpol portal,” said Ricky. He mentioned that the red notice submission is still ongoing via the Interpol portal.
