Polri Reviews Elimination of Overly Militaristic Basic Training, Including Students Carrying Weapons
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Acting Head of the Education and Training Agency (Kalemdiklat) of Polri, Inspector General Andi Rian Djajadi, revealed plans to eliminate the overly militaristic basic training for Polri students. Andi Rian stated that the habit of prospective Bhayangkara officers carrying weapons, wearing helmets, and carrying backpacks filled with bricks would be removed. “We are planning to conduct a study and evaluation of the basic Bhayangkara training. Perhaps our seniors experienced it in the past when the foundation was such that we carried weapons, backpacks, and wore helmets. We are currently reviewing this, and we will eliminate it,” said Andi Rian during a meeting of Commission III of the DPR at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026). He further emphasised that Polri would eliminate this militaristic culture from the very beginning of a Bhayangkara’s education. “Because this is part of the militaristic aspect. We will seek benchmarks from other countries on how the proper basic training for forming a Bhayangkara should be, no longer carrying weapons, backpacks filled with bricks or sand. This is our effort to eliminate the militaristic elements,” said Andi Rian.
