Jakarta, VIVA – The Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform has reported the results of its work to President Prabowo Subianto. Member of the Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, stated that they submitted seven volumes of books containing around 3,000 pages to Prabowo.

“We have actually submitted seven volumes of books to the President, perhaps around 3,000 pages; there is a summary of 13 pages and one that is only 3 pages, and this has already been handed over to the President, and he has read it,” Yusril said at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Yusril explained that the report resulted in six recommendations. One of them requests the revision of the Polri Law.

“The conclusion is that there are six points: six conclusion points from the Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform,” he said.

On that occasion, Yusril explained that Polri currently remains under the President. Therefore, there is no proposal regarding the push for Polri to change to being under a Ministry.

“What is also important regarding the position of Polri is to keep it as it is now, Polri directly under the President and not to form a Ministry of Security or Ministry of Police or place the police under an existing ministry, but Polri remains directly under the President,” said Yusril.

Here are the six recommendations from the Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform:

  1. Position of Polri

From the results of absorbing aspirations, there are several inputs highlighting the position of Polri in the state structure, namely whether it remains under the president as it currently applies or to form a new Ministry that will oversee Polri administratively. Although the discussion is not primary and the percentage is relatively small, this issue has attracted public attention, so there needs to be an affirmation to avoid counterproductive debates in the Polri reform agenda.

Considering the benefits and harms through several experiences and practices that have been carried out so far, as well as paying attention to the Indonesian context (geographical conditions and characteristics of regions and society), all members of the KPRP agree not to propose a new Ministry and the position of Polri remains as it currently applies, with the note that the existence of an external supervisor, namely the Kompolnas, must be strengthened with an expanded mandate of authority.
