Polri Probes Nabilah O’Brien’s Suspect Status, Owner of Bibi Kelinci Restaurant
Polri says it will thoroughly investigate all complaints related to the designation of Bibi Kelinci restaurant owner Nabilah O’Brien as a suspect in a case of alleged defamation and libel on social media. The Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) in the Polri Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said the police are committed to following up on the various reports or objections raised in the matter. ‘So Polri is committed to all of the complaints and will investigate them all,’ he said in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026, evening. He added that the legal process will proceed in accordance with procedures, upholding justice and applicable law. ‘It is also information that there were two constructions of events initially, a report or mutual reporting,’ he said. In response to Nabilah’s request for a special case conference, Trunoyudo said Polri will follow up on every complaint submitted. ‘In this case, of course we have stated Polri’s commitment to any complaints we will conduct a thorough review and of course will be followed up,’ he added. Meanwhile, regarding the charges laid against Nabilah, investigators are still reviewing. ‘Yes, of course, they are still in the process of deepening,’ he said. Nabilah’s lawyer, Goldie Natasya Swarovski, previously considered the designation of her client as a suspect to be rather strange because the process was deemed very rapid. According to Goldie, two days before the suspect designation letter was issued, her client was still being examined by investigators. ‘My client was sent the suspect designation letter on Saturday, 28 February 2026. This is odd because it happened very quickly,’ Goldie told reporters on Friday. Goldie assessed that the designation was inappropriate because her client’s post on social media only contained CCTV footage showing the actual incident.
