Polri: Online Gambling Damages the National Economy
Jakarta — The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian Police has reiterated that online gambling (judol) poses a serious impact on the national economy. “We recognise that the criminal act of judol harms the national economic order,” said Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, Director of Cybercrime at Bareskrim Polri, at a press conference at the Bareskrim building, Jakarta, Thursday, 5 March 2026. Therefore, law enforcement against such crimes continues, including through the seizure and execution of assets derived from crime. He explained that the execution is an implementation of Supreme Court Regulation (Perma) No. 1 of 2013, stemming from asset recovery under TPPU with the underlying offence being online gambling. Himawan explained that in these activities, the Directorate of Cyber Crimes at Bareskrim Polri also handed over the assets subject to the execution, derived from the seized assets, to the state. “This activity is a tangible realisation of Perma 1 of 2013, particularly regarding assets sourced from TPPU with the underlying offence of online gambling,” he said. During the event, Bareskrim Polri handed over the assets subject to the execution to the Attorney General’s Office as the government’s representative for onward remittance to the state treasury. The total amount of seized funds handed over in the proceedings amounted to Rp 58,185,165,803.
