Polri Executes Assets Worth Rp58.183 Billion from Online Gambling Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Cyber Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has executed assets valued at Rp 58,183,165,803 arising from a money-laundering offence linked to online gambling. The assets were subsequently handed over to the state through the Attorney General’s Office.
Director of Cyber Crimes at Bareskrim, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, said the execution implements Supreme Court Regulation (Perma) No. 1 of 2013 concerning the procedures for disposing of wealth in money-laundering offences.
According to Himawan, the action also represents the transfer of the results of the execution object to the government as state revenue.
He emphasised that the asset execution is a concrete follow-up to the Analysis Report (LHA) previously submitted by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) to the Cyber Crime Directorate Bareskrim Polri.
“Execution of the court decision is Polri’s commitment to support the government’s priority programme related to optimising asset recovery arising from crime, especially online gambling,” he said.
“We realise that online gambling offences have harmed the national economic order,” he added.
Therefore, the application of Perma No. 1 of 2013 is considered important to ensure that law enforcement does not stop at punishing offenders, but also includes the seizure of proceeds of crime for the state.
On that occasion, Bareskrim Polri handed over the assets subject to execution to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia as the government’s representative to be subsequently deposited as state revenue.
Himawan said the move also represents accountability for the follow-up to the PPATK analysis report and serves as transparency and accountability to the public.
From the report, transactions totalling Rp 255,757,671,888 across 5,961 accounts were temporarily halted.
Polri then followed up the report by filing 27 police reports.
