JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has confirmed that the legal process against a police officer in Makassar, South Sulawesi, who shot a teenager named Bertrand Eko Prasetyo to death, continues to proceed. The Head of Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Public Relations Division of Polri, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, expressed condolences over the incident and stressed that the case is a concern for Polri leadership.

The police subsequently performed an autopsy and handed the body over to the family.

“However, as we all know, we are also grieving, and then an autopsy was carried out, and then we from Makassar City Police and South Sulawesi Regional Police handed over to the family and notified them,” he continued.

The police officer, with the initials Iptu N, has now been named a suspect and is undergoing legal proceedings.

“A firm, proper step, taken by Makassar City Police in particular, this provides a legal step. Whether that means the criminal procedure steps, which have been named a suspect and are still in detention by Polresta Makassar,” he said.

In addition to criminal proceedings, he said, the person will also undergo a process of internal police ethics examination.

“In line with that, the code of ethics will also be applied to the person concerned,” he added.

He emphasised that evaluations are conducted periodically through an analysis and evaluation mechanism at every stage of activities.

“That includes before, during the planning process, analysing and evaluating on the previous programme of activities, then during implementation, up to post-implementation,” he added.
