Polor Dam Blamed for Cipondoh Floods in Tangerang

JAKARTA - The Polor Dam is the cause of flooding in Kampung Candulan, Cipondoh, Tangerang City. Tangerang City’s Head of Public Works, Taufik Syahzaeni, stated that the Polor Dam is one of the obstacles preventing the Angke River’s water discharge from flowing optimally to downstream areas. Therefore, the Ciliwung-Cisadane River Basin Organisation (BBWS) will reorganise the Polor Dam to anticipate flooding. “We welcome the BBWS Ciliwung-Cisadane’s plan to take evaluation actions regarding the existence of the Polor Dam, which, if calculated mathematically, becomes an obstacle to the Angke River’s water discharge, thus flooding often affects surrounding residential areas,” said Taufik, quoted by Antara on Thursday (14/5/2026). “A collaboration programme with support from the Banten Provincial Government has been prepared for large-scale normalisation to address flooding in the Polor Dam area, among others,” he added. Meanwhile, Tangerang City Mayor Sachrudin stated that flood handling at the Polor Dam, which borders Jakarta, has already been carried out. “This is certainly a major step for the local government, especially Tangerang City and Banten, and we are optimistic that this cooperation can have a significant impact that will bring better progress to the Tangerang City, Banten, and Jakarta regions,” Sachrudin remarked.
