Pollux Hotels Partners with Marriott International to Expand Hospitality Market in Indonesia
PT Pollux Hotels Group Tbk has entered into a strategic partnership with Marriott International to strengthen its hotel business while expanding the reach of the hospitality market in Indonesia.
President Director of PT Pollux Hotels Group Tbk Handojo K. Setyadi said the collaboration combines Pollux’s understanding of the local market character with the global network and standards held by Marriott International.
“We see Marriott International in Indonesia, I think there is no doubt about it. On the other hand, we at Pollux Hotel Group have also been managing hotels all this time. Our strength in the local market and the Indonesian market is something we have a strong command of,” said Handojo in his statement on Friday (14/8).
According to Handojo, the synergy will strengthen Pollux’s ability to meet the needs of both the domestic market and international tourists.
“This is what we are synergising so that Pollux Hotel Group will certainly become a hotel market that can meet the needs of the community, both local and international,” he said.
In addition to expanding the market, the partnership is also directed at developing human resources in the hospitality sector. Handojo said Pollux has from the outset paid attention to local workers in managing its hotel business.
“From the beginning, Pollux Hotel Group has been very concerned about local human resources. That is what we truly pay attention to because we do not only manage hotels,” he said.
The partnership with Pollux is part of efforts to expand the reach of the hospitality business by combining management strength and local market understanding with Marriott’s global network.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Hotel Development Asia Pacific at Marriott International Ivan Widarmana said Indonesia is one of the important markets in Marriott’s network expansion strategy.
According to Ivan, Marriott is not only targeting growth in major cities but also sees opportunities in second- and third-tier cities in Indonesia.
“In 2013, when I joined the development team, our position at that time was 32 hotels, and now we already have 88 hotels. From 88 hotels, I began to develop and see opportunities in Indonesia,” Ivan explained.
He said the expansion of Marriott’s network to various regions is carried out to capture the market’s growth potential while bringing the hotel network closer to consumers outside the main economic centres.
Marriott has been operating in Indonesia since 1991. In developing its hotel network, the company relies on operational standards and training centres to maintain consistency in service quality across various regions.
“If all hotels in Indonesia carry the Marriott brand, it means that wherever they go, they can use their loyalty programme. This is what makes us increasingly interested in growing in Indonesia,” he concluded.
