Pollution in Jakarta

Pollution in Jakarta

From Pos Kota

The pollution in Jakarta has now reached a level of alarming
concern. This has prompted the State Minister for Environmental
Affairs Soni Keraf to kick off the Care for the Environment
movement by introducing urban regreening or reforestation, action
expected to mitigate pollution, of the smoke type especially,
particularly in Jakarta.

As a resident of Jakarta, I support this effort fully,
especially considering that fumes from the exhaust of motorized
vehicles may lead to heart problems, impotency and cretinism in
children. We therefore call on public transportation companies
and owners of private motorized vehicles to pay attention to the
pollution caused by their vehicles. Relevant authorities should
closely monitor motorized vehicles so that those which are no
longer environmentally worthy can be banned from the roads for
the sake of everybody's health.
