Polluted school
Polluted school
I was sad to see the picture entitled Polluted School in The
Jakarta Post, Sept. 23, 1994. The caption reveals that the
construction of the Taman Rasuna apartments creates pollution.
As far as I am aware, the primary school pupils, who have been
transferred to a nearby school, have been deprived of their right
to study peacefully. They deserve an environment which is free of
dust and noise while they study. Students are an essential part
of our national development.
In recent years, we can't have missed reports of land
disputes, pollution and other violations due to physical
development in the local dailies.
In relation to this matter, it has seemingly become an
everyday phenomenon now that the economic powers that be ignore
public facilities when they construct new buildings. I had been
under the impression that they were leaving educational
facilities alone. It seems I was wrong.
