Politics yesterday: Prabowo leads pilgrimage to Aceh flag issue
A number of political events were reported by ANTARA News Agency journalists on Sunday (16/8), ranging from President Prabowo leading the National Pilgrimage and Sacred Reflection ceremony at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta, to issues concerning the Crescent Moon flag in Aceh.

President Prabowo Subianto led the National Pilgrimage and Sacred Reflection ceremony at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta on Sunday (16/8) evening, ahead of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
President Prabowo arrived at TMP Kalibata in the presidential vehicle Maung Garuda at 11.39 pm Western Indonesia Time, and was greeted by a drum band.

President Prabowo Subianto ensured the government is providing maximum handling to communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by mobilising relevant ranks and distributing basic needs assistance.
“We want to ensure our brothers and sisters there receive fast and maximum emergency handling,” Prabowo said via his Instagram account @prabowo, monitored in Jakarta on Sunday.

Indonesia’s 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed his optimism about the direction of national development conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto in the 2026 State Address.
“I assess that speaking about 2027, and at the same time marking the enactment of the 2027 State Budget, I see that the direction of the blueprint and development agenda to be implemented by the government next year is, in my view, increasingly better, increasingly clear, and gives new hope for all of us,” SBY said.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago invited all elements of society to maintain peace in Aceh and conducive conditions in Papua while continuing to respect the public’s freedom to express aspirations peacefully.
Djamari, in his statement in Jakarta on Sunday, said that expressing aspirations is a public right, but its implementation must remain within the legal corridor and must not be accompanied by violence or destruction.
- Aceh requests certainty from Home Affairs Minister regarding Crescent Moon flag
The Aceh Government together with the Aceh House of Representatives (DPRA) agreed to consult with the Minister of Home Affairs to seek legal certainty regarding the Crescent Moon flag following unrest in Banda Aceh on Saturday (15/8).
“The meeting result is to become a joint agreement. Regarding the Crescent Moon flag, the Aceh Government and the Aceh Parliament will jointly consult with the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Aceh Government Spokesperson Nurlis Effendi in Banda Aceh on Sunday.
