Politician fails to attend ceremony

PRAYA, West Nusa Tenggara: An Indonesian Democratic Party
(PDI) politician failed to make it to a ceremony installing him
on the regional election committee because he was busy tending
his timber business, Antara reported yesterday.

"Tooees Suranggana is busy with his business in Sumbawa,"
according to chief of Central Lombok PDI chapter Syahrial
Achmadi. "He didn't know about the ceremony because the
invitation came after he left for Sumbawa on Monday."

Another PDI local executive, Syarpono, however, said Tooees'
failure to show up was an embarrassment to the party, especially
because the ceremony on Wednesday had already been delayed an
hour to wait for him.

According to an official of the regional committee for the
1997 general elections, Tooees can still be inducted this month.
