The national economic growth target of 8 percent cannot be achieved without a strong foundation of political stability, regulatory certainty, and synergy between the government and the business world.

This was stated by Anthony Leong, the candidate for Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (BPP Hipmi), during the first debate for candidates for BPP Hipmi Chairman held in Jambi some time ago.

He assessed that economic growth cannot be built solely from macroeconomic optimism and ambitious targets, but must also be supported by stable political conditions, investment security, and market confidence.

“Without political stability, 8 percent economic growth is just a number. Investors need certainty, business actors need policy consistency, and the public needs a sense of security regarding the direction of national development,” Anthony said in his statement on Monday, 11 May 2026.

He explained that history shows countries with high economic growth are always supported by relatively stable political conditions, strong government coordination, and minimal horizontal conflicts or elite polarisation.

According to him, the grand agenda of 8 percent growth launched by President Prabowo requires solid national orchestration, from fiscal policy and industrialisation to downstreaming, investment, and job creation.

“Economic growth is not just about enlarging GDP figures. More importantly, it is how that growth emerges from a healthy ecosystem: stable politics, efficient bureaucracy, maintained investment climate, and space for the business world to develop,” Anthony said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto and Daily Chairman of the Gerindra Party as well as Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, for their contributions in maintaining national political balance amid government transition dynamics and global challenges.

According to him, leadership capability that can bridge various national interests is the main capital to maintain the momentum of economic growth.

“We must appreciate as highly as possible Mr President Prabowo Subianto and Prof Sufmi Dasco Ahmad who become the bridge of the nation. Political bridges to weave national interests. Inclusive leadership becomes the foundational capital to achieve 8 percent economic growth,” he said.
