The Indonesian Navy is preparing the Lampung Naval Base to serve as a berth for the country’s first aircraft carrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi. Head of the Navy Information Service, First Admiral Tunggul, confirmed that Lampung is one of the bases being readied to accommodate the vessel’s anchorage and docking. The Navy is racing to complete infrastructure development at the base before the carrier arrives in Indonesia ahead of the Indonesian Military’s anniversary in October 2026. Tunggul stated that construction is ongoing with the expectation that all facilities will be ready before the Garibaldi reaches Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has refuted social media rumours suggesting it rejected the Asset Forfeiture Bill. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman labelled the claims as hoaxes spread by anonymous accounts, asserting that deliberations on the legislation are still underway. He noted that the House has so far gathered input from at least 24 community elements, including students, experts, and civil society organisations, with further hearings planned.

In other political news, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, acting as Chair of the Forest Area Control Task Force, convened a meeting attended by Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin. The closed-door session also included senior military and government oversight officials. Separately, House Commission I has begun fit and proper tests for candidates vying for positions on the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission for the 2026–2029 term, with seven candidates undergoing the process after 26 were shortlisted from an initial selection.
