Political Recap: Police Age Extension and Prabowo Summons Luhut

Various political events occurred on Tuesday, starting with a plenary session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) agreeing to pass the Bill on the Indonesian National Police (RUU Polri) into law, and ending with President Prabowo summoning Luhut and Chatib. The DPR plenary session approved the Bill on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia to be enacted. The agreement was reached after political party factions expressed their approval during the 21st Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI for Session Period V of the 2025-2026 Session Year in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the extension of the retirement age limit for the four-star High-Ranking Officer or the Chief of the Indonesian National Police is tailored to needs. He mentioned that this was the result of joint discussions between the government and the DPR, where Commission III of the DPR RI and the government agreed that the retirement age for four-star high-ranking officers, set at 60, could be extended by one year or as needed based on a presidential decree. President Prabowo Subianto summoned DEN Chair Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and senior economist and former finance minister Chatib Basri to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon. Luhut and Chatib arrived together at the palace complex around 15:30 WIB. Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad gathered the directors of the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) to discuss share improvement amid current market dynamics. He assessed that the discussion was focused on the package of State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) shares which actually have good value, but the global situation has impacted their prices. Chatib Basri denied being offered the position of finance minister by President Prabowo Subianto during their meeting. After the meeting, Chatib explained that the discussion with President Prabowo concerned economic conditions and developments.
