Political Figures Flock to PPP: Jogja Branch Chair Calls It a Fresh Breeze
The Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the United Development Party (PPP) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) states that following a declaration in Sleman, there are currently political party figures in Gunungkidul and Bantul joining the party symbolised by the Ka’bah. PPP claims that the joining of these figures is without coercion and serves as a fresh breeze.
DPW PPP DIY Chairman, Muhammad Yazid, said that the current political winds are quite advantageous for PPP. Not without reason, Yazid mentioned that several figures from other parties are returning to PPP.
“As last week in Sleman, there was a declaration from figures from other parties to join PPP without any coercion or promises. In Bantul too, there are several party figures who want to join PPP, and in Gunungkidul, several figures have already joined PPP,” he told reporters in Bantul on Sunday (26/4/2026).
Regarding which political party figures are joining PPP, Yazid declined to reveal them. However, Yazid said that a declaration from those figures would not be long in coming.
“It would be inappropriate for me to mention them, but clearly there are, and Sleman has the most, followed by Bantul and Gunungkidul,” he said.
Regarding whether there is any specific consolidation with the joining of these political party figures, Yazid admitted there is none. According to him, they are joining PPP without any coercion.
“They are voluntarily joining PPP, even though in the previous period some were members of DPRD from other parties,” he said.
However, Yazid revealed that the political party figures joining PPP are given strategic positions in the organisational structure.
“But when they join PPP, we give them a sufficiently strategic portion. For example, a party figure in Sleman who recently joined PPP, I invited him to strengthen the DPW and gave him the position of one of the Chairmen of OKK (Organisation, Cadreisation, and Membership),” he said.
According to Yazid, this moment is a fresh breeze for PPP. Moreover, PPP is not losing its old cadres with their joining.
“Clearly a fresh breeze, fresh blood for us without leaving our previous cadres,” he said.
Previously reported, several figures and cadres from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and some from Partai Ummat declared themselves to join the United Development Party (PPP) in Sleman Regency. They aim for PPP to form one faction in the Sleman DPRD in the upcoming elections.
Declaration committee chairman, Dodik Ariyanto, said that they are not coming as an “empty wagon”. According to him, the cadres joining were core officials in their previous parties.
“We who are present here are not an empty wagon. In our old party, we already held strategic positions, from chairman, treasurer, secretary, to branch and sub-branch chairmen,” Dodik told reporters after the declaration in Jombor, Sleman, on Sunday (19/4) previously.
He said that this move is not a sudden decision. Communication and coordination with various parties, including party seniors, have been carried out for the last few months.
“This is not sudden. We have been interacting and coordinating for several months. Today we are determined to migrate and make PPP our new home,” he said.
