Political Analyst Ubedilah Badrun Reported to Police Over Podcast Remarks on Prabowo-Gibran

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Political analyst Ubedilah Badrun has been reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding his statements in the Forum Keadilan podcast on YouTube, which touched upon President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The report was submitted by Rangga Kurnia Septian (28), Coordinator of Pemuda Garda Nusantara.

The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that the report was received on Monday (13/4/2026).

“Yes, that’s correct. The suspect is directly named as the lecturer with initials UB,” Budi told Kompas.com on Friday (17/4/2026).

The report is registered under number LP/B/2560/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA dated 13 April 2026.

In response to the report, Ubedilah expressed bewilderment. He assessed that the reporting related to alleged hate speech could actually worsen the quality and index of democracy in Indonesia.

“Regarding the report, I actually find it odd how such a report could emerge amid the deteriorating democracy in Indonesia, amid Indonesia’s poor image in the international eye,” Ubed stated when contacted separately on Friday.

He also views the reporting of this criticism as a form of public silencing in terms of freedom of expression.
