Political Analyst Says Kompas Survey Results Reflect Polri Reform
Data from the Litbang Kompas survey serves as a credible empirical reference for assessing the direction of institutional reform within the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
Senior political observer Boni Hargens stated that the Litbang Kompas survey results, which show that 80.6 per cent of respondents believe Polri’s performance is improving, reflect the implementation of reforms within the institution. “The Litbang Kompas survey data is a credible empirical reference in assessing the direction of Polri’s institutional reform,” Boni said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to Boni, the 80.6 per cent figure is an indicator of public trust that can serve as a basis for assessing the extent to which police reform has impacted the eyes of the community. He believes this achievement demonstrates the seriousness of Polri under the leadership of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in executing reforms, covering both operational performance and organisational culture.
He noted that this concept does not only touch upon technical operational aspects but also encourages a policing culture that is more humanist, transparent, and oriented towards public service. “Increasing public trust in Polri is a prerequisite for strengthening democracy and the successful implementation of governance,” he remarked.
He assessed that the increase in public trust towards Polri is not merely an institutional achievement but also contributes to the strengthening of democracy and government stability. In the context of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, he believes Polri plays a strategic role in maintaining order, managing social dynamics, and enforcing the law justly.
“Polri’s success in building public trust has implications that extend beyond policing duties, as it also touches upon the dimensions of democratic stability and government legitimacy,” said Boni.
The Litbang Kompas survey results show that 80.6 per cent of respondents believe Polri’s performance is improving. The survey also noted that the level of public trust in Polri increased to 82.4 per cent, up from 76.2 per cent in 2025.
The Litbang Kompas survey was conducted from 9–18 April 2026, through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents across 38 provinces. The sampling method used systematic multi-stage sampling with a 95 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of 2.83 per cent.
