Polish ship joins sailing race
With reference to your article Wind sends off sailing races to
Jakarta concerning the Arung Samudra 1995, published in The
Jakarta Post on Aug. 8, 1995, the Embassy of the Republic of
Poland would like to draw your attention to the presented list of
foreign tall ships participating in the event. The Polish tall
ship ISKRA II, the training ship of the Naval Academy in Gdansk,
has by some mistake been omitted.
ISKRA was not able to participate in the opening ceremony at
Benoa, Bali, due to strong backward winds on her way from
Mauritius. She entered the port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta on
Aug. 8, 1995, to take on fuel and fresh water, and on the same
day she left for the starting line of the tall ship race. With
the approval of the Organizing Committee of Arung Samudra, ISKRA
II takes a delayed part in the race.
