Polish Embassy to hold cultural events

INDONESIA: This year, both Indonesia and Poland are commemorating the 50th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic relations. To mark this occasion, the Polish Embassy in Jakarta is organizing two important events this week.

The embassy will feature two young Polish artists who have fallen in love with Indonesia.

The first event will be a photo exhibition by Piotr Jakubowski, a Polish national born and raised in Jakarta, who took the photographs in Indonesia.

"Most of the photographs were taken during a visit to Aceh which show the courageous response of the Acehnese people to the tragedy they suffered following the tsunami," the embassy said in a press release sent to The Jakarta Post.

The second event will be a piano recital by Marta Podolska, a pianist who is currently a music lecturer at Pelita Harapan University in Karawaci.

Both the events will be held on Thursday.

Polish Ambassador to Indonesia Tomasz Lukaszuk said that in the past three years, relations between Indonesia and Poland had reached a new height following visits by Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski and then prime minister Marek Belka to Indonesia in 2004 and 2005 respectively. --JP
