Polio vaccination campaign begins in five Afghan provinces
The Afghan government on Monday (17/8) launched a polio vaccination campaign targeting children in five provinces to prevent the further spread of the disease, local media TOLOnews reported, citing the Afghan Ministry of Public Health. More than 2,580,000 children in 39 districts across the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Kabul, Herat, and Farah are expected to receive the polio vaccine during the campaign, according to the report. The campaign aims to respond quickly to recently confirmed polio cases and prevent further transmission of the virus, the report added.
