Polio immunization in W. Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta mayoralty is determined to make the government's polio eradication program a success by conducting en masse immunizations, an official said yesterday.

Kholik Masulilik, head of the mayoralty's health office, said 5,000 personnel had been assigned to immunize the 181,000 children under five in West Jakarta.

The government has designated Sept. 13 and Oct. 18 as national immunization days. The massive polio immunization scheme is part of the World Health Organization's effort entitled World Free of Polio by the year 2,000.

On the day, each child will be given two oral polio immunization drops at immunization posts in hospitals, public health centers, playgrounds, bus and railway stations, and even markets.

Kholik called on parents to take children under five to the nearest post.(29)
