Policy on exams to be discussed soon
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Education and Culture will soon
issue a policy statement on final exams for students in
elementary and senior high schools in order to prevent exam
schedules from coinciding with the upcoming June general election
June, an official said.
Director General of Elementary and Secondary Education
Indradjati Sidi said on Friday that the policy would be discussed
early March.
"The most important thing here is how to maintain security for
the students," Indradjati said on the sidelines of a coordination
meeting discussing the compulsory nine-year education program.
Recent reports have indicated that schedules for the exams
would be brought forward from May to April.
The story, however, was denied by head of the education and
culture ministry's Jakarta office Alwi Nurdin, who said that the
schedules in the city would be adjusted according to ministry
policy, Antara reported. (hhr)
