Policewoman Sentenced to 10 Years for Murdering Husband in Mataram
The Panel of Judges at the Mataram District Court has handed down a 10-year prison sentence to Brigadier Rizka Sintiyani. She was found guilty of murdering her husband, Brigadier Esco Faska Rely.
“Sentencing the defendant to 10 years in prison,” stated the panel of judges chaired by I Putu Suyoga on Friday (19/6/2026).
The judge declared that defendant Rizka was legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act as stipulated in Article 44 paragraph (3) of Law No. 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence, in conjunction with Article No. 38 of the first appendix to Law No. 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.
“Declaring the defendant proven to have committed a criminal act, namely committing physical violence within the domestic sphere that resulted in the death of the victim, as per the first indictment,” the judge detailed.
In the ruling, the judge also stipulated that the sentence be reduced by the period of arrest and detention already served by the defendant. “Ordering the defendant to remain in detention,” the judge stated.
The verdict was lighter than the prosecutors’ demand. Previously, prosecutors had sought a 14-year prison sentence for Rizka.
Rizka was a defendant in this case alongside four others: Siaun, Nuraini, Paozi, and Dani Rifkan.
Brigadier Esco was found dead in a horrific state in the plantation behind his house in Nyiur Lembang Hamlet, Jembatan Gantung Village, Lembar District, West Lombok, on 24 August last year. The member of the Sekotong Police Intelligence Unit was first discovered by Saiun. Brigadier Esco’s body was found decomposing, with a damaged face and a rope tied around his neck under a tree.
Initially, the discovery of the body was suspected to be a suicide by hanging. However, based on investigation and inquiry, the West Lombok Police named five suspects. The first person named as a suspect was Brigadier Esco’s wife, Briptu Rizka, followed by the four other suspects.
