Policemen arrested for extortion
MEDAN, North Sumatra: The North Sumatra Police have arrested
three police intelligence officers in Medan for allegedly
extorting money from a Singaporean businessman.
"The three are liable to dismissal from the police force if
they are proven guilty of extorting money from the foreign
citizen," North Sumatra Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Amrin Karim
said here on Friday.
He said the victim, identified as Wilindri, had reported to
the provincial police headquarters that the three policemen had
threatened him with arrest if he did not give them Rp 5 million.
The police have also questioned two employees of a bank in
Medan on charges of bribing the three intelligence officers in
order not to arrest the Singaporean. --Antara
