Policeman unconscious after attack by superior

Theresia Sufa, The Jakarta Post, Bogor

A police officer in Bogor has been unconscious since Saturday after he was allegedly assaulted by his superior, Bogor Police chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Wasgito.

Adj. First Insp. Wawan Setiawan, security unit head of North Bogor Police sub-precinct, was taken to Bogor Red Cross Hospital (RS PMI Bogor) by his wife Muryati, 50, after he fell unconscious immediately after he arrived home. Wawan was moved to Azra hospital on Sunday.

Wawan allegedly told his wife that he had just been assaulted by the Bogor Police chief at the Central Bogor Police sub- precinct.

The attack allegedly took place after Bambang received the news that his son Tri Rianto Andika Putra, 15, a first year senior high school student in Bogor, had been attacked by unidentified persons.

Upon receiving the news, Bambang reportedly called up Wawan immediately and told him to come to the Central Bogor Police sub- precinct. Wawan was allegedly attacked immediately after he arrived.

"I want the assault case to be investigated thoroughly," Muryati said.

Bambang, however, denied the allegation, saying that the story was fabricated to discredit him.

"That is not true. I have never assaulted my subordinates. It is true that my son Rian was attacked. If there are people who say that I beat up by subordinates, they have a personal grudge against me," Bambang said.
