DILI, East Timor: East Timor Police chief Andreas Sugianto has removed the chief of the police precinct in Lautem Regency for comments that provoked unrest in his area, Antara reported.
Antara did not identify the name of the police officer, but said that his place has now been filled by Major Wardoyo.
Andreas said the former chief had made remarks that caused resentment among the Lautem people. The decision to remove him was taken to ease tension in the area, he added. (emb)
