Policeman removed from regency

DILI, East Timor: East Timor Police chief Andreas Sugianto has
removed the chief of the police precinct in Lautem Regency for
comments that provoked unrest in his area, Antara reported.

Antara did not identify the name of the police officer, but
said that his place has now been filled by Major Wardoyo.

Andreas said the former chief had made remarks that caused
resentment among the Lautem people. The decision to remove him
was taken to ease tension in the area, he added. (emb)
