JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The viral video showing a convoy of cars performing zig‑zag maneuvers on the Bekasi–Cawang–Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) Toll Road drew public attention. Although the perpetrators received only a verbal admonition from police, questions were raised about whether such actions could be sanctioned with a ticket.

The head of the Gakkum Sub-Directorate of Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, said that under traffic regulations, zig‑zag driving on a toll road can still be subject to enforcement.

‘Absolutely possible, because it endangers other road users,’ Ojo told Kompas.com on Saturday (7/3/2026).

Under the regulations, drivers are required to operate their vehicles in a reasonable manner and with full concentration, as stipulated in Article 106(4). If violated, drivers can be penalised under Article 283 with a maximum three months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp 750,000.

In addition, if the zig‑zag manoeuvre is carried out deliberately and endangers other road users, drivers can also be charged under Article 311(1), which deals with reckless driving, with a maximum prison term of one year or a fine of up to Rp 3 million.

Previously, a video went viral on social media showing several cars performing a zig‑zag convoy on the Becakayu Toll Road. In the footage, some vehicles appear to switch lanes as if on a race track.

One of the videos was uploaded by the Instagram account @jakarta_siders. Although traffic conditions appeared relatively light, the action was still deemed potentially dangerous to other road users travelling in the same lane.
