Police Will Arrest Perpetrator of Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
JAKARTA – The National Police’s Head of Public Affairs, Police General Johnny Eddizon Isir, has affirmed that law enforcement will thoroughly investigate the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), and will arrest the perpetrator regardless of their identity.
“The National Police Chief has given his attention to this matter, and all our personnel – investigators from the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Metro Jakarta Police Regional Command, and the National Police Headquarters providing support – will take this seriously and work diligently to bring the matter to light, uncover the facts, and apprehend the perpetrator, whoever they are,” Isir stated firmly when met at the Public Affairs Division building of the National Police in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Isir said that investigators from the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police handling the case are also receiving support from the Metro Jakarta Regional Police Command and the National Police Headquarters in the investigation process.
“The evidence is currently undergoing further analysis, with the hope that it can be identified quickly,” he said.
In addition, police have already sought initial statements from a number of witnesses. Currently, at least two people have been interviewed by investigators.
“The witnesses interviewed are those who were with the victim and assisted the victim. We are also deepening interviews with other witnesses who were near the crime scene,” he explained.
Isir revealed that the injuries from the acid attack affected several parts of the victim’s body, including the face, chest, and hands.
Earlier, it was reported that Andrie Yunus became a victim of an acid attack by an unknown person in the Central Jakarta area on Thursday, 12 March 2026 in the evening. The attack occurred shortly after he finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
