Police watch stops student brawls

From Pos Kota

Fights involving students from senior high schools, those of
the vocational high school on Jl. Tubagus Angke and in the
neighborhood of Genit Bridge in West Jakarta take place almost
every day, and have even led to the death of a student. As
parents, we are terrified when we see the students behaving
brutally like this.

Since Aug. 15, 2000, the Cengkareng Police have stationed
their officers in those locations. Gang fights have not occurred
since, because proactive steps taken by the police officers are
effective enough to prevent student fights from breaking out in
places where students from different schools used to gather.

Those of us who live near these locations feel safe because
during the sensitive hours when the students come into contact,
some policemen are stationed there.
