Jakarta, VIVA – The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of the Metro Jaya Police has issued a verbal warning to a group of car drivers who went viral for forming a convoy and zig-zagging along the Becakayu Toll Road (Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu), East Jakarta.

AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, head of the Road Patrol Directorate (PJR) within Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya, said the drivers were given a written warning together with an educational appeal after the actions.

“For the drivers who zig-zag on the Becakayu Toll Road in East Jakarta, we have met them. They were only given a verbal warning and an educational appeal not to repeat their actions,” he said when contacted on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

The police have also identified the drivers involved in the zig-zagging on the toll road.

“For the drivers who zig-zag on the Becakayu Toll Road, East Jakarta, we issued a verbal warning. The individual concerned has also issued an apology for driving in a reckless manner,” Brata explained.

In addition, authorities did not issue fines to the drivers. “So, they were only given a verbal warning along with an educational appeal and an apology, and were not ticketed. We gave a verbal warning while delivering the educational appeal,” he said.

Earlier, amateur footage circulating widely on social media platform Instagram @jakarta_siders showed five cars driving together in a convoy along the Becakayu toll road on Wednesday night (4 March) in the evening.

The vehicles appeared to move between lanes in a zig-zag manner, shifting from lane one to lane three in alternation. In the footage, the cars moved from lane one to lane three alternately.

The dangerous act seemed to block the toll road for the convoy. Although traffic on the toll road appeared relatively sparse, the zig-zagging action was still considered dangerous.

Such driving behavior can cause accidents, particularly if other vehicles are travelling at high speeds.

The incident also drew condemnation from the public, with people expressing concern about indiscipline on toll roads.

“Driving like that is very dangerous for other drivers. There should be firm action to ensure it does not happen again,” said a resident, Indah (29), in East Jakarta, on Friday (6 March).
