Metro Jaya Police have revealed the timeline of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, which occurred in the Cempaka Putih area on 12 March 2026.

Director of General Criminal Investigation, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, disclosed that several hours before the incident, the victim Andrie visited the YLBHI office at 19:45 WIB to attend a podcast. From CCTV footage shown, Andrie was seen leaving the office at 23:22 WIB.

“And from the YLBHI office, based on CCTV we obtained, he was already being followed by the suspected perpetrator, an unidentified person,” Iman said during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Wednesday (18/3).

CCTV footage also indicates that there were more than two perpetrators. As the victim exited the YLBHI office, the camera captured a motorbike rider signalling to another motorbike carrying two people suspected to be the executors of the act.

The suspected executors then followed the victim’s movements, even stopping at the Bright Cikini petrol station when the victim refuelled. This suspicion is based on analysis of clothing and vehicles that were later identified as similar to those of the perpetrators at the crime scene (TKP).

After the petrol station, police identified another vehicle suspected to be part of the perpetrators’ group. This second vehicle was involved in monitoring the victim’s movements towards the incident location.

“Subsequently, after the petrol station, there were already people waiting. This is part of the suspected perpetrators’ group, the second vehicle that was monitoring the victim,” he explained.

The acid splashing occurred at the TKP when the perpetrators passed the victim. In the CCTV recording, one of the perpetrators is seen splashing the dangerous liquid towards the victim before fleeing.

After carrying out the act, the two perpetrators escaped on two motorbikes in different directions. One of the perpetrators even rode against the flow of traffic.

During their escape, the perpetrators were captured on CCTV in the Diponegoro Street area. Police suspect that the dangerous liquid may have splashed onto the perpetrators’ bodies, as they were seen cleaning themselves with mineral water.

“The one in front, wearing a red T-shirt, we suspect had removed his outer clothing, because at the TKP he was wearing a shirt with a blue batik pattern. There is a connection, a correlation with our findings from earlier that day before the incident. This one wearing the red T-shirt was also monitored and captured on CCTV during the daytime before the incident,” Iman explained regarding the CCTV footage found by the police.

From further investigation, police discovered CCTV recordings before the incident showing the perpetrators had been in the area since the afternoon. At 17:18 WIB, the face of one suspected perpetrator was captured on camera.

Additionally, at 17:22 WIB, the perpetrator was seen moving towards the incident location. The series of recordings demonstrates the connection in the perpetrators’ movements from before to after the acid attack.

“Several CCTV footages show the interconnected journey of these suspected perpetrators,” he added.

Police have also secured several pieces of evidence, including a helmet suspected to have been used by the perpetrator and found near the TKP. Currently, this evidence is undergoing laboratory testing.

Iman emphasised that all CCTV recordings used in the investigation are original data without any manipulation. The faces of the perpetrators displayed are also confirmed to be authentic.

“This has not been altered or processed in any way, so we can be accountable that this is not the result of Artificial Intelligence. We state that this is purely taken from CCTV captured by surveillance cameras along the routes travelled by the perpetrators, so it is not the result of Artificial Intelligence,” he stressed.
