Police Vehicle Crushed by Train at Unguarded Level Crossing in Bantul
A vehicle belonging to the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Yogyakarta Special Region Police (DIY) was struck by a train at the Tapen level crossing in Argosari, Sedayu, Bantul. No fatalities were reported in the incident.
Arif Fatimah, the Jogoboyo (security and public order officer) for Argosari Village, confirmed the incident occurred around 08.30 WIB. “That’s right, the incident happened at 8.30 am and involved a train and a Brimob vehicle at the Tapen crossing,” he said when contacted on Thursday (23/7/2026).
Arif stated that there were no casualties or injuries, but the front of the vehicle was badly damaged. “There were no fatalities, only damage to the front of the vehicle,” he said.
He explained the accident happened as the vehicle attempted to cross the railway line. The crossing is located near a bend, and the guard post barrier was not functioning, which likely caused the driver to lose concentration. “It was about to cross and was hit by the train. Because of the position near the bend, the driver wasn’t concentrating. So it had already moved forward, and reversing would have been too close to the passing train,” he said.
Contact was made with the Sedayu Police for confirmation, but they have yet to provide a comment.
