I learned from a TV broadcast that traffic police in Jakarta
are equipped with masks while on duty. This is to stop them
inhaling polluted air which is mainly caused by the exhaust fumes
emitted by cars.

Although we understand the aim in this matter, this implicitly
suggests that polluters can go on polluting the air without
warning from the police. But the problem of pollution is not yet
solved. What about other road users, like pedestrians and
motorcyclists? Are they going to be told to also use masks? Why
not take action against motorists whose vehicles emit smoke? We
don't find police using masks in Mexico even though the country
has the highest pollution level in the world.
