Police Urged to Track Original Distributor of AI Image in Andrie Case
Members of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Airlangga Julio, has requested that police trace the individual who first fabricated the AI-generated photograph of the alleged perpetrator in the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of Kontras (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence). According to him, the digitally manipulated photograph could serve as supplementary evidence in identifying the perpetrator.
“Investigation should be pursued to identify the original person who fabricated the photograph, and this should be used as additional evidence to find the perpetrator,” Julio stated at the YLBHI Office in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.
The lawyer from AMAR Law Firm & Public Interest Law Office noted that investigators from the Jakarta Metro Police have suspected that the AI image was deliberately created by the perpetrator to obscure information. Following this assessment, Julio urged the police to trace the original distributor of the photograph.
On the same occasion, TAUD member Afif Abdul Qoyim stated that TAUD does not consider the photograph as an official source. TAUD, he said, will provide periodic updates regarding developments in Andrie’s case and condition. “We will transparently inform the public about what we are working on,” he stated.
TAUD has urged police to investigate the suspected premeditated attempted murder behind the attack on Andrie Yunus. The Vice Coordinator of Kontras was doused with corrosive acid by an unknown person on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.
TAUD representative Fadhil Alfathan stated that the attack against the victim was allegedly intended to kill. “The attack on our colleague Andrie Yunus constitutes attempted premeditated murder,” Fadhil said on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Fadhil explained that the perpetrator possessed full awareness that the corrosive acid they used could have fatal consequences for the victim, particularly if directed at the victim’s facial area, rendering it a lethal assault.
The perpetrator is also believed to have carefully planned the attack against the victim. “We suspect there was a series of surveillance activities to ensure the safe execution of the attack,” Fadhil stated during a press conference.
Accordingly, Fadhil stated that the case can be classified as suspected premeditated attempted murder. This is regulated under Article 17 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning attempted commission of a criminal act, specifically premeditated murder.
Andrie Yunus was doused with corrosive acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, Thursday evening, 12 March 2026. Yunus was sprayed with hazardous solution by two unknown individuals who were riding a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction.
Kontras Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the perpetrators sprayed corrosive acid onto the front of Andrie’s body. Afterwards, Andrie collapsed onto the road. “The victim immediately cried out in pain and dropped his motorcycle,” Dimas said on Friday, 13 March 2026.
The corrosive chemical affected Andrie’s right side, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. A portion of the victim’s clothing also melted from exposure to the corrosive acid. Medical examination results indicated that Andrie sustained serious burn injuries covering 24 percent of his body.
