Police Urged to Be More Aggressive in Cracking Down on Online Gambling Networks
The raid on an international online gambling network’s office at Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower in Jakarta by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has received widespread appreciation as evidence of the police’s sophisticated detection capabilities. Nevertheless, the government is urged to be more proactive in carrying out law enforcement actions and to tighten supervision of foreign nationals (WNA) from the immigration entry point to break the chain of this digital crime. PB Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah General Chairman, KH Masyhuril Khamis, stated that he fundamentally appreciates the police for the arrest of the perpetrators of the international online gambling network in Jakarta. Therefore, law enforcement officials are asked to be more aggressive in taking action against the actors in the online gambling network. “Actually, our police are already very sophisticated; all activities that contradict or violate the law can already be detected by our police. The problem, of course, is in the action—whether it is acted upon or still waiting,” said Kiai Masyhuril to Republika on Tuesday (12/5/2026). According to Kiai Masyhuril, the presence of foreign nationals can certainly be detected from immigration. The punishment should not only be deportation but more than that. As previously known, hundreds of foreign nationals who managed around 75 online gambling sites using combinations and different variable labels to avoid website blocks in Indonesia have been arrested.
