Police Urge Workers to Commemorate May Day Orderly, Ban Students from Joining Protests
Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan has urged labour unions to commemorate Labour Day or May Day on 1 May in an orderly manner. He also requested that students not participate in demonstrations.
“We invite all labour elements and unions to express their aspirations peacefully, courteously, and without violating applicable laws,” Andri Kurniawan told reporters on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
He reminded them of the importance of maintaining unity and oneness. He asked workers not to be provoked.
“Do not be easily provoked by untrue issues. Maintain unity, oneness, and peace in society,” he said.
Andri reminded participants of the action to obey the rules. In addition, the public was asked to protect public facilities from damage.
“We hope all parties can maintain order, including not damaging public facilities and not disturbing other community activities,” he stated.
Andri also reminded students not to join demonstrations. He asked students to focus on learning.
“We urge students not to participate in May Day activities that could potentially cause security disturbances. Focus on learning activities,” he said.
