Police Urge Victim in East Java Tourism Ambassador Forced Abortion Case to Report
Police are urging the victim of an alleged forced abortion involving Tio Ferdian Rahmana, the runner-up of Raka Raki Jawa Timur 2026 and a former Cak & Ning Surabaya 2023 titleholder, to come forward and file a report. The Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at Surabaya Police, AKBP Melatisari, stated that while the case is being monitored, no official report has been received. She emphasised that a formal complaint is essential to serve as the basis for an investigation.
Tio Ferdian Rahmana is suspected of asking his girlfriend to terminate her pregnancy. The allegations spread widely after screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation between Tio and a woman claiming to be his girlfriend circulated on social media platforms including Instagram and Threads. In the shared posts, Tio allegedly asked a woman who was 12 weeks pregnant to have an abortion in Singapore.
Responding to the allegations involving Tio as an East Java Tourism Ambassador, the Head of the East Java Culture and Tourism Office, Evy Afianasari, said her office is not remaining silent. She explained that the selection process for Raka Raki is tiered, with participants first screened by district and city governments and required to obtain a recommendation letter before competing at the provincial level. Evy stated that the matter needs thorough clarification before any decision is made, and the Raka Raki Association has already begun verification with the relevant offices.
The individual concerned has been summoned to provide clarification, and the results will be discussed jointly by the Culture and Tourism Office, the judging panel, the Raka Raki Association, and the relevant local government. Evy confirmed that the office has prepared strict sanctions if the investigation proves Tio committed a violation, with the most severe penalty being the revocation of his title and the removal of his name from the Raka Raki Association.
Meanwhile, the Surabaya City Government has officially dismissed Tio Ferdian Rahmana from his position. Besides being a member of Raka Raki Jatim 2026, Tio worked as a contract staff member in the General Affairs, Protocol and Leadership Communication section of the Surabaya city administration. The Head of the section, Ario Bagus Permadi, confirmed that Tio was a non-civil servant contract worker recruited based on his background as a Cak Surabaya 2023 winner. Following an internal clarification, the city government decided to terminate his employment as of that morning.
