Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has urged the public to utilise the toll fee discount policy in effect on 26-27 March 2026 during the return flow as an effort to distribute vehicle traffic so it does not concentrate in a single time period.

Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operasi Ketupat 2026, Brigadier General Tjahyono Saputro, stated that the management of the return flow will be carried out optimally, as during the outbound flow, to ensure that the public’s journeys remain safe, smooth, and comfortable.

“The success of Operasi Ketupat 2026 is the result of synergy among all stakeholders, from the TNI, relevant ministries to local governments and active public participation,” Tjahyono said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Additionally, he conveyed that Polri is also anticipating an increase in public mobility after Eid 2026, particularly the bangkit mudik phenomenon.

The bangkit mudik phenomenon refers to the surge in public mobility that occurs immediately after the Eid al-Fitr prayers.

The term describes the movement of citizens who are just starting their journeys home to the village or making silaturahim visits right after the Eid worship procession is completed, which has the potential to trigger sudden traffic density.

Therefore, Tjahyono reiterated the National Police Chief’s appeal regarding the potential increase in public mobility after Eid al-Fitr prayers.

“Polri, together with all its ranks, is increasing personnel readiness in the field, both in traffic management and security at points prone to density,” he said.

The 30 percent price cut is applied to toll road tariffs on 25 sections in Sumatra and Java. The discount applies on 15-16 March and 26-27 March 2026.

To enjoy the 30 percent toll discount during the Eid 2026 outbound and return flow periods, long-distance road users (barrier gate to barrier gate) are required to conduct transactions using the same electronic money card for the tap in and tap out processes with sufficient balance.

The trip origin data and vehicle class must be clearly readable in the toll transaction system. The discount does not apply if the electronic money balance transaction is insufficient or the origin and vehicle class are not readable.

Based on a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, it is estimated that 143.9 million people will travel for Eid this year.

The top five provinces as destinations for this year’s outbound travel are Central Java, East Java, West Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and South Sulawesi.
